Staying Connected on Your Island Holiday
One of the charms of travel is the ability to get away from everyday hassles and stress – and Norfolk Island has perfected this trait with most visitors leaving well rested and relaxed.
But how do visitors keep in contact with loved ones while they’re here (and ensure holiday envy by posting stunning landscape photos and foody pics)? While international roaming using a normal personal SIM is not possible on Norfolk Island, compatible phones which are not locked to another network provider can use the Norfolk Telecom network. Visitors can purchase a Visitor SIM Pack for $30 which offers:
- 2GB data
- 25 mins each of local landline and mobile calls
- 5 minutes of IDD calls to Australia or New Zealand
- 100 SMS
The Visitor SIM Pack is valid for 21 days. The plan can be extended by topping up the account at any time. To purchase, visit:
- Customer Care on New Cascade Road
- Paw Paw’s Pump Shed
- The Trading Post
- P&R Groceries
and speak to the friendly staff about the options available.
Visitors need to be aware that Norfolk Island call rates are often different and may be higher than Australian and other Pacific nation charges.
Wanting to call home? To call Australia from Norfolk Island, include international code 0011 61 then insert the required number eg. 0011 617 3312 3456 (landline) or 0011 614 123 456 (mobiles). For loved ones wishing to contact visitors on Norfolk Island from Australia, they need to use the international code 0011 6723 then the number eg. 0011 6723 21234 (landline) or 0011 6723 51234 (mobile).
Funny fact – when calling from Norfolk Island to Australia, the call shows as coming from Antarctica as we share the same international code!
